Johannesburg, or Jozi as the locals call it, is South Africa's biggest city and is the economic and financial giant of Sub-Saharan Africa. The city accounts for 16% of South Africa's gross domestic product and 40% of the economic activity of Gauteng province.

Johannesburg  was established during the gold rush in the 1880s and it is still the hub of gold and diamond trade in South Africa. The main airport of Johannesburg, O R Tambo International Airport is the main gateway to South Africa.

With over 10 million trees, Johannesburg is effectively the biggest man-made forest in the world. The leafy northern areas feature some of the finest real estate in South Africa. Johannesburg has all of the facilities of a great city, including  magnificent shopping centres and theme parks, top schools and universities,  excellent theatres, restaurants and art galleries.

Situated in a high altitude area known as the Highveld, Johannesburg has a mild, dry, sunny climate punctuated by short, afternoon thundershowers during the summer.
